If you’re considering revamping your garden or another outdoor area at your home, you may well be exploring the different options available for garden paths. If so, we’d like to throw a resin path into the mix. It might be a type of surface you’re less familiar with than paving or gravel, but we think once you learn more about it, you’ll be sold.
So, why are resin footpaths such a good choice for gardens and other outdoor spaces?
1. They’re resilient
Resin paths are made to last. A resin-bound surface is made from small aggregate stones mixed with resin to give it the appearance of a gravel path, but with much greater longevity.
The resin holds the stones in place, which means you won’t get the displacement commonly associated with regular gravel paths. Meanwhile, the combination of the aggregate with the resin makes it incredibly hard wearing, so it’s ideal anywhere that receives high foot traffic.
2. They drain well
Drainage is important on pathways – you don’t want big puddles to form when we’re having wet weather. This is where resin footpaths come into their own, because they provide such a permeable surface.
That means when it rains you won’t have to worry about puddles forming because the water will drain through the stones into the ground below. If you live in Manchester where, let’s face it, we get a lot of rain, this will be a huge plus-point.
3. They have excellent grip
Footpaths are designed to be walked on, not just to be decorative. Resin surfaces are well-known for providing excellent grip underfoot, making them a safe option for everyone.
Unlike some paving stones, which can become slippery when wet, or loose gravel which can be unstable underfoot, resin paths will give you stability and a non-slip surface – even if it’s wet or icy outside.
This also makes resin a good choice of surface if you have any sloped pathways or even ramps in your garden, as the grip it offers will make it safer for anyone navigating a slope.
4. They offer versatile design choices
Resin pathways can come in many colours – their appearance will depend on the aggregate stone you choose as the base of your path. That means you can tailor them to suit your property.
So, if you’d like a stone-grey footpath to tie in with the rest of your garden, no problem. Similarly, you can choose a warmer colour of aggregate, like a sand-coloured gravel for a slightly brighter look. The choice really is yours. What’s more, we use a UV-stable resin, which will help your path maintain its colour for longer.
5. Simple installation process
You won’t necessarily need to remove an existing pathway to have a resin-bound path installed at your property. Resin footpaths can be laid over an existing pathway provided it has a solid base.
For instance, if you have an unsightly tarmac or concrete path, you won’t need to remove it before laying a resin-bound pathway to replace it. The resin surface can simply be laid on top of what is already there.
